Alstom accelerates its industrial development in Türkiye

Alstom to Increase Capacity in Bursa by 2.5 Times

French rail transport systems giant Alstom is accelerating its growth initiative in Türkiye. The company is preparing to increase both the production capacity and employment at its component factory in Bursa by two and a half times. With the Rail Innovation and Integration Laboratory set to become operational in 2026 within the Teknopark Türkiye Engineering and Technology Center in Istanbul, Alstom will serve not only Türkiye but also the broader Africa–Middle East–Central Asia (AMECA) region.

During his visit to Türkiye, Martin Vaujour, President of Alstom’s AMECA Region, told EKONOMİ newspaper that this market lies at the center of the company’s regional strategy. Vaujour stated: “Türkiye is not just a market for Alstom; it is a base for innovation, production, and growth. The heart of the engineering capability that drives our regional projects beats here.”

“Türkiye, a Regional Power Center”

Vaujour, who took office as President of the AMECA Region—which covers Africa, the Middle East, and Central Asia—in June 2025, said that his first overseas visit was to Türkiye. He added: “Türkiye is at the heart of this strategic region. Our team of 420 professionals here leads not only the projects in Türkiye but also those across the region. The team in Türkiye serves as an innovation- and production-oriented growth center within Alstom’s global strategy.”

Alstom has been operating in Türkiye for more than 70 years. While contributing significantly to the country’s railway infrastructure through signaling, infrastructure, rolling stock, and maintenance solutions, the company continues to expand its investments. The component factory in Bursa began production in 2024, and Alstom is now preparing to increase its capacity by 2.5 times. Vaujour emphasized that the factory has become an important center not only for production but also for talent development:

“Over 250 people currently work at our Bursa facility. In the coming period, we will increase both our workforce and production capacity. This plant supports Türkiye’s exports and industrial capability by serving global projects in Europe. Through our female welder training program, we are bringing women—who previously had no experience in this area—into the sector. We currently have four female welders, and we aim to increase this number.”

“We Are Ready for New Tenders”

Vaujour noted that Alstom has completed signaling for 740 kilometers of mainline and 180 kilometers of urban lines in Türkiye:
“To date, we have delivered signaling solutions for nearly one thousand kilometers in Türkiye. With our strong local team, we are ready for new tenders as well.”

Alstom is also pursuing a strategy aligned with Türkiye’s goals in sustainable transportation technologies. Reminding that the transportation sector accounts for 23% of global carbon emissions, Vaujour said: “Railways are crucial in achieving the net-zero emissions target. Türkiye’s vision to expand its modern railway network in line with the 2053 Net Zero Target excites us. With our energy-efficient solutions, signaling technologies, and sustainable systems, we will continue to support Türkiye.”

“We Work with 25 Suppliers in Türkiye”

Vaujour stated that Alstom works with more than 25 suppliers in Türkiye, enabling them to reach an annual market volume of approximately 50 million euros. The company expects to generate around 100 million euros of added value from Türkiye by the end of 2025. He concluded: “Türkiye’s investment climate has gained significant momentum in recent years. Investments in rail systems are steadily increasing. As part of this growth, we will continue to provide long-term contributions to Türkiye.”
