Knauf Türkiye invests €40 million to boost production

The German plaster and drywall giant, Knauf, has announced a strategic expansion of its operations in Türkiye. Ali Türker, General Manager of Knauf Türkiye, stated that the group is preparing a new €40 million investment aimed at increasing drywall production capacity by more than 20 million square meters, bringing the annual output to over 65 million square meters.

In Türkiye, Knauf operates four production sites and manages thirteen gypsum quarries, five of which are currently active. Ali Türker emphasized that Türkiye is among the countries with significant gypsum reserves, with the Bala region in Ankara standing out for its resources. The company operates quarries in Ankara (2), Niğde, Kırıkkale, and Adapazarı (1 each), ensuring a solid local supply for its industrial sites.

On the market side, Knauf estimates its share in Türkiye at 20–25%, where 17 plaster producers and 9 drywall manufacturers are active. Due to its production spread across multiple countries, exports remain limited, but Knauf ships products to Iraq, Syria, the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, Lebanon, and Jordan. Demand from Syria, which had been interrupted by war and sanctions, is slowly recovering.

Murat Akyıldız Appointed Global Managing Partner

As part of this expansion, Knauf also announced the appointment of Murat Akyıldız as Global Managing Partner. He joined the group in 2021 as regional CEO for Türkiye, the Middle East, Africa, and South Asia, and will assume his new role on January 1.
