Turkey is a country located between Europe and Asia, offering exceptional cultural, historical and natural wealth, making it a popular tourist destination. Turkey's economy heavily depends on tourism, which brings millions of tourists to each year from all over the world.
Turkish tourism is regaining color as the effects of the pandemic fade: the industry's revenues increased by 53.4% in 2022 compared to 2021 to reach a record amount of nearly USD 46.3 billion, and the number of foreign visitors increased by almost 80% compared to 2021 to reach 44.6 million, nearly catching up with pre-pandemic figures (45.1 million visitors in 2019).
In addition to being a significant source of foreign currency, it also makes up around 10% of Turkey's GDP and employs 1.7 million people in the sector of lodging and food services, or about 5% of the GDP total employment in the nation.
